Srinagar: Two terrorists, who were trapped during an encounter with security forces, laid down their arms before the authorities in Pulwama district on Saturday, officials said.The security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation at Lelhaar in the Kakapora area of the district on Friday night following information about the presence of terrorists there, the officials said.They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding terrorists opened firing.After a night-long lull in the firing, the two terrorists surrendered before the security forces along with their two AK rifles, the officials said.The two ultras were identified as Akeel Ahmad Lone and Rouf Ul Islam. Lone had sustained splinter injuries in his right foot and was taken to the police hospital here for treatment, they added.Both the terrorists were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit HM. During initial exchange of fire, one of the terrorist Akeel Ahmad Lone got injured who was evacuated to hospital for treatment.IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint team of police and security forces for showing utmost patience and exhibiting professionalism, which resulted in saving the life of two misguided youth. IGP Kashmir once again makes a fervent appeal to all misguided youth who have joined terror ranks to shun the path of violence and return to mainstream as the society needs them and most importantly their parents. We will welcome and accept them with open arms.Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-47 and 01 AK-56 rifles laid down by them were seized.In this connection police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any.
