SAMBA: National Development Foundation, NDF J&K Jammu in collaboration with Mission Director ICPS J&K Government with support from EU organised a capacity building training for the Child Protection Committees (CPCs) of 10 villages of Samba district.Around 100 CPC members participated in the training programme. The participants were sensitized on child rights, JJ Act & role of CPC’s in JJ system. Sunny Kumar Programme Manager NDF acted as Resource person. Prominent among others present in the programme include Dr. Pankaj Chandan Director Nature Wildlife and Climate Change (NWCC) Division, NDF and Sarpanchs of the target villages.Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus NDF and Former Member SCOC under JJ Act, J&K government in his inaugural speech called upon the CPCs to coordinate with different stake holders like Childline, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), and DCPU’s for providing proper care, protection, development & rehabilitation services to the children in need of care & protection. Responding to the query regarding increase in drug addiction among adolescent and youth, Khajuria stressed upon the need to be more close to the children and linkage of addicts with counseling & referral services. He assured to the participants that he will take up the issue with the concerned CWC’s, DCPU and district administration. Khajuria also gave a detailed account of child protection and child rights with a special focus on survival, development, protection and participation rights. He stated that protection right is integrally linked to all other rights of the children and called to strictly follow the juvenile justice Act, which guides on how to deal with children in conflict with law and the children in need of care and protection.
